A Second FIABCI World Award for Tujuan Gemilang

Innovations at Point 92 Recognised On International Stage

Point 92 (Menara OBYU) was awarded the World Silver Award Office Category at the 66th FIABCI World Prix d’Excellence Awards.  This landmark achievement is also the second for Tujuan Gemilang, following up to the World Gold Award won by PJ Trade Centre in 2013 (the first office in Malaysia to be awarded the Gold since Petronas Twin Towers in 2002).

Dubbed the ‘Oscars of Property’, the award is considered the highest honour in international real estate. It recognises projects that best embody excellence in all real estate disciplines involved in the creation, illustrating the FIABCI ideal of ‘providing society with the optimal solution to its property needs’.

Winners in 13 categories are selected by a panel of 80 judges from 35 countries, with the marks audited by KMPG. Judging criteria includes the general description of the project, planning and design, community and environmental impact, and marketing among others.

The World Gold Award for 2015 was won by Tanzende Türme (Dancing Towers), Hamburg, Germany.

“There is no need to copy the typical glass box look favoured by other office buildings. With Point 92 and PJ Trade Centre, we have proven that even with sustainable and responsible methods, we can be successful in a secondary location.”
– Peter Chan, Executive Director of Tujuan Gemilang

Innovation at the core of Point 92

Imagine having only 0.92 acres (hence the name Point 92) to build a Grade-A office of the future. Fresh from the success of PJ Trade Centre, Tujuan Gemilang set on a bold approach to challenge the conventions for office buildings yet again. Point 92 personifies a striking impression among the judges and critics with its creativity and innovations which include:

  • Incorporating simple and readily available materials
  • Simplicity leading to design economy
  • Connecting people with nature with 600 trees
  • Suited to local climate and context

The end product is a modern office building that becomes an exemplary model for the developing world. For instance, its iconic white concrete façade halves the cost of construction when compared to typical glass curtain designs. The introduction of 600 trees into such a confined area not only adds significantly to comfort in greenery; it also helps reduce ambient the temperature of the building.

How does this add up? Despite its secondary location and higher rental rate, Point 92 achieved 75% occupancy within 15 months, with a current occupancy rate of 93%.  Renowned and creative MNCs like Nike, Lego, Lowe & Partners and Regus to name a few, have chosen Point 92 as their base. Based on their feedback, the design of Point 92 not only enhances their corporate image, but also provides for a comfortable and inspiring environment for its employees.

“We want to do something different, even if it takes longer than usual. The very DNA of Tujuan Gemilang is to craft great ideas with passion.”
– Ahmad Khalif Tan Sri Mustapha Kamal, Executive Chairman of Tujuan Gemilang

The Big Four Awards & More

The team is driven as ever in its purpose to challenge convention, reinvent existing prototypes and push the industry forward. Tujuan Gemilang is continuing its arc of innovation in its current projects in Cyberjaya, the Tamarind Square and Tamarind Suites.
